Laura became a Licensed Professional Counselor because she loves the human brain and because she believes in the power of healing. She uses a variety of paths to assist adults and adolescents in healing. She is trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and utilizes additional techniques to assist clients in finding the ways that help them. Laura has experience working with depression, anxiety, work-related stress, trauma, substance abuse/addiction, domestic violence, sexual assault, and crisis safety planning.
When she told her friends at a high school reunion that she became a therapist, no one was surprised. Most just laughed and said she had always been one. But becoming a counselor hadn't been in Laura’s life plan until after counseling got her through the worst time in her life. They say "hurt people hurt people", but she finds the opposite to also be true "hurt people help people".
Laura’s office is a safe place to express emotions, even the ones that we are ashamed of. Feel free to scream into a pillow, cry into a stuffed animal, pull a blanket over your head, or just hold on to a warm cup of tea. Together we will help you learn to heal. Laura starts by helping patients create a plan to address the behaviors and emotions that hurt them and hold them back. On your first visit, she will talk about what your goals are, what your average day looks like, what makes you laugh or cry, and what to expect from the therapy process.
